Doxepin is indicated as adjunctive therapy of psychogenic dermatoses (any skin irritation or lesion that is self-inflicted), particularly those that are caused by anxiety.
Doxepin has less potential for adverse cardiac effects than many other tricyclics, but instances of ventricular arrhythmias have been reported, particularly after overdoses. It may also cause extreme excitability, gastrointestinal distress, or lethargy. Other side effects are possible.
