Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Gastrointestinal Dry Cat Food is a highly palatable and high-energy diet for cats with digestive sensitivities. It is also formulated with highly digestible proteins, enhanced omega-3 fatty acids like EPA and DHA, and a fiber blend to support digestive health. The fiber blend includes highly fermentable prebiotic fibers to help support the microbiome and less-fermentable fibers to support stool quality and regularity. The high energy content supports underweight cats or cats with a reduced appetite. Plus, the exclusive S/O index supports urinary health by creating an environment unfavorable to crystal formation in the bladder. Interested in a wet food complement? Feeding guidelines are general recommendations only. The amount of food required by your cat may vary above or below that listed in this feeding guide. In consultation with your veterinarian it is recommended that you weight your cat 4 - 6 weeks after starting a new diet in order to adjust food intake to maintain or achieve an optimal body weight and body condition score. Consult your veterinarian for specific feeding guidelines for your cat. This diet is formulated to be complete and balanced. It is unnecessary to feed leftover foods, kitchen scraps or additional supplements. It is recommended that your cat be fed 2 - 4 equal portions of the diet per day. Ensure fresh drinking water is available at all times. Store this product in a cool, dry place.
Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.
| Transition Day | Current Diet | New Diet |
|---|---|---|
| Days 1-2 | 75% | 25% |
| Days 3-4 | 50% | 50% |
| Days 5-6 | 25% | 75% |
| Day 7 | 0% | 100% |
